Everything you need to know about delicious vegan eggs

A healthy egg substitute that tastes just like the real thing without the miscarried chicken or risk of finding shells in your breakfast.

In my pre-vegan days, I wasn’t a huge egg fan. I’d order eggs every once in a while but was not a weekly egg eater. I didn’t like how they sat in my stomach and when I thought about eating a liquified chicken, it really didn’t seem appealing.

Fast forward to present day and I’m realising how much I love that egg flavour offered to me by a vegan alternative! Yes, you can buy products in stores like VeganEgg and Just Egg (both delicious and highly recommended by the whole Wholly Loaded crew) but the cost can add up quickly especially if you have a big family (or if you’re a huge egg fan!). Wholly Loaded offers a magical solution: a vegan egg seasoning for a block of tofu.

Our It’s Eggcellent seasoning combines healthy ingredients to give your tofu the perfect egg taste. Nutritional yeast, black salt, onion, garlic, turmeric and black pepper mixed up with tofu join forces to bring you fibre, protein, folic acid and a whole host of B vitamins! Each shaker seasons around 12 blocks of tofu or 6 if you like that amazing egg flavour to be strong. Not only are you cutting costs, you’re loading up on vitamins not offered by the animal-based alternative. Even if you’re not making a total vegan lifestyle change, I highly recommend trying vegan eggs for the health benefits and because they’re easier on your wallet than a dozen chicken eggs. With inflation eating up our grocery budgets, why not save money where you can. Plus, vegan eggs don’t contain the same icky cholesterol a chicken egg does.

Vegan eggs don’t have to be boring! You can add ingredients to make wonderful variations. Add salsa, hot sauce, onions and chiles for a Mexican flavour. For southwest eggs, add minced onions, diced green peppers, a tin of black beans and a chopped tomato. Mushroom fan? Try adding sliced mushrooms and garlic to your Eggcellent tofu eggs. The possibilities are endless and we’d love to hear what you add to vegan eggs to give them that extra spark. Send us your photos and recipes to be featured on our social media feeds. We can’t wait to see your kitchen creations!

  • 1 block broken up firm or medium tofu

  • 1 tbsp oil or vegan butter

  • 1 tbsp Wholly Loaded It's Eggcellent seasoning

Instructions: Heat oil in pan over medium heat. If you’re adding extra ingredients to your pan like garlic, onion, salsa or mushrooms, now is the time to add those veggies! Break tofu up over pan and mix to coat in oil. Add Eggcellent seasoning. Cook it up for about 5 minutes or until the tofu reaches your desired crispiness. Add tomatoes at the end for about a minute so they don’t turn to mush. Enjoy with toast, home fries or just on their own. Take pictures of your creation and send them our way so we can share some love on social media!
